The Music

As the name might suggest, Funk Lab: Music from a Motion Picture Funktrack is an album of funk-based music, composed and produced by American musician George Clinton. The album was released on June 16, 2017 by MVD Audio.

Clinton is best known as the founder and frontman of the Parliament-Funkadelic collective, which had its peak of popularity in the 1970s and 1980s. Funk Lab is Clinton’s first full-length solo album in over 20 years, and was inspired by his work on the 2016 film Royally Ratched.

Funk Lab features Clinton’s trademark mix of R&B, soul, and funk, with contributions from a number of well-known musicians including Bootsy Collins, Fred Wesley, and Pee Wee Ellis. The album was met with positive reviews from critics, who praised Clinton’s continued ability to produce catchy and entertaining music.

The Funk

The funk is a genre of music that originated in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It is characterized by a strong rhythm section, often with a horn section playing funk-inspired riffs. The style often makes use of electric bass, electric guitar, and drums.

The term “funk” can be used to describe a variety of different styles of music, but it is most commonly associated with a style that developed in the African-American community in the early 1970s. This style of music was popularized by artists such as James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic, and Sly and the Family Stone.

The funk sound is often created by using syncopated rhythms with a groove-based approach to melody and arrangement. This approach to music making often incorporates elements from other genres, such as soul, R&B, and jazz.
