Introduction

Funk Volume was an American independent record label founded by Dame Ritter and personal trainer Damien Ritter in 2008. The label was home to artists Hopsin, SwizZz, Dizzy Wright, Jarren Benton, and Funk Volume producer Kato on the Track. In early 2015, Funk Volume dissolved due to a conflict between co-founders Dame and Damien, with the latter leaving the company.

As of October 2015, Funk Volume’s YouTube channel has over 500 million video views, and its website receives over four million unique visitors per month. The label was known for releases that contained no profanity or drug references, as well as for its “New artists; new sounds” mantra.

Funk Volume’s music videos were praised for their quality production values and originality. In 2012, the label’s video for Hopsin’s “Ill Mind of Hopsin 5” was nominated for “Video of the Year” at the BET Hip Hop Awards. The following year, the label’s video for Dizzy Wright’s “Can’t Trust Em” was nominated for “Best Hip Hop Video” at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan.

In this article, we take a look at some of the best music videos released by Funk Volume.

Best Music Videos of 2015

The year 2015 was filled with amazing music videos that captured our attention and had us singing along. Some of these videos were funny, while others were moving and emotional. Here are our picks for the best music videos of 2015.

“Hot Nigga” by Bobby Shmurda

This song was all over the place in 2015, and for good reason. The production is ridiculously catchy, and Bobby Shmurda’s flows are undeniable. The video features Shmurda and his crew posted up in front of a decrepit building, rapping their hearts out. It’s simple, but it works perfectly for the song.

“Latch” by Disclosure

“Latch” is a song by English electronic music duo Disclosure, featuring vocals from English singer Sam Smith. It was released on 8 October 2012, by PMR Records. The song peaked at number 11 on the UK Singles Chart in October 2012 and number 26 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart the following year. A music video to accompany the release of “Latch” was first released onto YouTube on 25 September 2012 at a total length of four minutes and thirty-seven seconds.

“All I Need” by Radiohead

The “All I Need” video spares no expense in its pursuit of weirdness. The budget must have been high, as the video features a host of strange characters, including a man with an owl head, a bride with a face like a baby’s bottom, and a woman whose mouth has been sewn shut. The video is also shot in reverse, which only adds to the eeriness. Despite all this, the video is strangely compelling, and it’s easy to get lost in its weirdness.

“Chandelier” by Sia

Australian singer-songwriter Sia’s “Chandelier” is one of the most haunting, beautiful, and tragic music videos of 2015. The video, directed by Daniel Askill, features 11-year-old Maddie Ziegler of Dance Moms fame lip syncing and dancing to the song in an abandoned warehouse. It’s a masterfully choreographed routine that is both captivating and heartbreaking.

“Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson

“Uptown Funk” is a song by English producer Mark Ronson featuring American singer and rapper Bruno Mars. The track was released on 10 November 2014 as the lead single from Ronson’s fourth studio album, Uptown Special (2015). “Uptown Funk” topped the charts in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and 19 other countries.

The song won two Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album, and was nominated for Record of the Year. “Uptown Funk” spent 14 consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the longest-leading single of 2015 and marking Ronson’s first US number one single as a lead artist. The song was also declared the Song of the Year by Rolling Stone magazine.
