Nirvana

Nirvana was an American rock band that was formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. The band’s lineup consisted of singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain, bassist Krist Novoselic, and drummer Dave Grohl. Nirvana unleashed their debut album Bleach in 1989 on the independent record label Sub Pop. The album was a critical success and helped the band gain a cult following. Bleach was followed by Nirvana’s highly anticipated second album Nevermind in 1991. The album became a global phenomenon, catapulting the band to superstardom and tearing down the barriers between alternative rock and mainstream pop music. Nirvana’s third and final studio album In Utero was released in 1993 to critical acclaim. Following the death of Cobain in 1994, Nirvana disbanded. Grohl went on to form the Foo Fighters, while Novoselic continued to work as a political activist and musician.

Soundgarden

Grunge music was born in the late 1980s in Seattle, Washington. It was a subgenre of alternative rock that slowly began to take over the mainstream in the early 1990s. The grunge look was characterized by plaid shirts, ripped jeans, and scruffy hair. The music itself was raw and unpolished, with heavy guitar riffs and angsty lyrics.

One of the most iconic grunge bands was Soundgarden. They wereformed in 1984 by singer Chris Cornell and guitarist Kim Thayil. The band released their debut album Ultramega OKin 1988, but it wasn’t until their 1991 album Badmotorfinger that they began to gain mainstream attention. Badmotorfinger contained the hits “Rusty Cage” and “Outshined,” both of which received heavy rotation on MTV.

Soundgarden’s success reached a new level with their 1994 album Superunknown. Stone Temple Pilots

Stone Temple Pilots is an American rock band from San Diego, California, that originally consisted of Scott Weiland, brothers Dean and Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz. Since the band’s debut album Core was released in 1992, the band has sold over 40 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. They were also ranked number 15 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. The band temporarily disbanded in 2002 due to creative differences, but reunited in 2008.
