Looking for some interesting and unique music to listen to? Why not check out some heavy metal bands that play classical music! These bands fuse together two genres of music that are usually worlds apart, resulting in some truly original and exciting sounds.

Metallica

Metallica is a heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1981. The band’s fast tempos, instrumentals, and aggressive musicianship placed them as one of the founding “big four” bands of thrash metal, alongside Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. Metallica’s current lineup comprises founding members Hetfield and Ulrich, longtime lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo. Guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassists Ron McGovney, Cliff Burton, and Jason Newsted are former members of the band.

Their album “S&M”

In 1999, Metallica released S&M, a live album featuring the San Francisco Symphony conducted by Michael Kamen. The album includes new orchestral arrangements of many of Metallica’s hits, such as “Master of Puppets” and “One”, as well as “No Leaf Clover”, an original composition written for the orchestra.

Playing with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra

In 1999, Metallica performed with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra at Berkeley Community Theater. The performance was later released as a live album, titled “S&M.”

Megadeth

Megadeth is an American heavy metal band that was formed in 1983 by Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson. The band has released fifteen studio albums, five live albums, six compilation albums, one EP, forty-six singles, ten video albums, and forty-four music videos. Megadeth is known for their technical and often fast-paced playing style, as well as their incorporation of classical music into their metal songs.

Their album ” Countdown to Extinction: Live”

On October 9, 2012, Megadeth released their album “Countdown to Extinction: Live”. The album was recorded during the band’s tour in support of their 1992 album “Countdown to Extinction”.

The album features live renditions of all the songs from “Countdown to Extinction”, as well as three bonus tracks. The bonus tracks include a cover of the song “Cold Sweat” by Thin Lizzy, a cover of the song “Symphony of Destruction” by Metallica, and an original song titled “Breadline”.

The album was met with positive reviews from critics. AllMusic gave the album a rating of four and a half stars out of five, calling it “a document of one of metal’s all-time great live bands at the top of their game.” Metal Sucks gave the album a positive review, stating that the band sounds “just as fresh and aggressive as they ever have.”

Performing with the Orquestra Filarmonica de Buenos Aires

Performing with the Orquestra Filarmonica de Buenos Aires, Megadeth took the stage in 2001 and brought together two seemingly disparate genres of music – heavy metal and classical. The result was a performance that was nothing short of spectacular, with the band’s signature sound meshing perfectly with the lush symphonic arrangements. It was a showing that proved that, despite their hard-edged image, Megadeth were more than capable of experimenting with new sounds and styles.

Dream Theater

Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985 under the name Majesty by John Petrucci, John Myung, and Mike Mangini. The band’s current lineup includes Petrucci, Myung, Mangini, James LaBrie, and Jordan Rudess. Dream Theater is known for their technical proficiency and complex song structures.

Their album “Score”

Their album “Score” is a two-disc recording of their last tour, mixed with studio overdubs. It is the first of Dream Theater’s live albums to feature a full orchestra and choir.

Performing with the Octavarium Orchestra

Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985. The band is known for their live performances, which often include extensive improvised sections. They are also known for their use of classical music elements in their music.

The band’s live performances with the Octavarium Orchestra are some of the most notable examples of their use of classical music elements. In 2005, the band performed a series of live shows with the Octavarium Orchestra, during which they performed a selection of their songs with a full orchestra. The shows were well-received by both fans and critics, and showcased the band’s ability to integrate classical music elements into their metal sound.
