The Legacy

The Legacy is the ninth studio album by the British rock band Deep Purple, released on 26 August 1987. The album was recorded during May and June at George Martin’s AIR Studios in Montserrat and engineered by Simon Fuller. It was the first Deep Purple album to feature Joe Lynn Turner on lead vocals.

The band’s previous vocalist, Ian Gillan, had left following the release of their previous album, The House of Blue Light (1987), citing creative differences. The band asked Turner to audition for the position, and he was subsequently hired. The Legacy reached number 5 in the UK Albums Chart and was certified Gold by the BPI for sales in excess of 100,000 copies. It was also certified Platinum in the US by the RIAA.
