New Releases

It’s always exciting when a new metal album is about to drop. We’ve been waiting for a while, but the wait is finally over. Here are the newest heavy metal music releases that are coming soon.

Metallica

The self-titled album, often referred to as The Black Album, is the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica. It was released on August 12, 1991 through Elektra Records to critical acclaim. Metallica produced five singles that are considered to be among the band’s best-known songs, which include “Enter Sandman”, “The Unforgiven”, “Nothing Else Matters”, “Wherever I May Roam”, and “Sad but True”. A sixth song, “My Friend of Misery”, was also released as a single from the album but did not receive as much radio attention.

Megadeth

Megadeth is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California. The group was formed in 1983 by guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson, following Mustaine’s expulsion from Metallica. A pioneer of the American thrash metal scene, the band is credited as one of the genre’s “big four” with Anthrax, Metallica and Slayer, responsible for its development and popularization. Megadeth plays in a technical style, featuring fast rhythm sections and complex arrangements. Due to frequent lineup changes, bass guitarist David Ellefson is the only original member present in the band.

The band has released fifteen studio albums, four live albums, five compilation albums, one EP, forty-six singles, ten video albums and thirty-seven music videos. Megadeth has sold over 38 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling heavy metal bands of all time. They have received eleven Grammy nominations for their work. Rolling Stone ranked Megadeth number 51 on its list of the 100 Greatest Metal Bands of All Time. In 2010, they were awarded with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for their contributions to music. In 2016 they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame after having been nominated five times previously (in 2001, 2002 2003, 2004 and 2015).

Slayer

Slayer is an American metal band from Huntington Park, California, formed in 1981 by guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman. Spanning four decades, Slayer has released twelve studio albums, two live albums, a box set, six video albums, thirty-nine singles and thirty-seven music videos. The band’s fast and aggressive musical style made them one of the founding “big four” bands of thrash metal, alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. Slayer’s final lineup comprised King (guitars), Hanneman (guitars), Tom Araya (bass, vocals), and Paul Bostaph (drums). Former members of the band include drummers Dave Lombardo and Jon Dette.

Slayer’s musical style involves fast tremolo picking, double bass drumming, and screaming vocals. In the original line-up King and Hanneman were influenced by punk rock particularly bands such as the Misfits, while Araya was influenced by Elvis Presley. Later members Bostaph and Lombardo brought influence from early thrash metal bands such as Exodus which is evident on South of Heaven (1988) and Seasons in the Abyss (1990). Prior to Lombardo’s first departure in 1992, he initiated a technical/speed Thrash Metal resurgence that proved highly influential to later scenes worldwide.
The band’s allegiance to Satanism has generated controversy over the years with some critics accusing them of promoting racism or bigotry due to their use of Nazi imagery in past album covers artworks and stage shows. Nevertheless Slayer have never openly endorsed nor denied these Long Beach boys have always been tight-lipped about their views on anything non-musical
On November 28th, 2015 it was announced that Jeff Hanneman had died aged 49 from liver failure.
