Metallica- “Hardwired”

Metallica isn’t messing around with their new album, Hardwired…To Self-Destruct. The legendary heavy metal band’s tenth studio album is a return to form, full of the hard-hitting, fast-paced metal that made them famous in the first place.

This is the first Metallica album in eight years, and it was definitely worth the wait. Hardwired…To Self-Destruct is a double album, and while that might seem like overkill, each track is essential listening for any metalhead.

The album starts off strong with the title track, “Hardwired,” which is sure to get any pit moving. Other standouts include “Atlas, Rise!,” “Now That We’re Dead,” and “Moth Into Flame,” which features some of the best guitar work from Kirk Hammett in years.

If you’re a fan of Metallica or just metal in general, Hardwired…To Self-Destruct is an essential addition to your collection.

Megadeth- “Dystopia”

Dystopia is the fifteenth studio album by American heavy metal band Megadeth. It was released on January 22, 2016, through Tradecraft Worldwide and distributed by Universal Music Enterprises. The album features new bassist Davide Ellefson, who returned to the band in 2010, as well as longtime drummer Shawn Drover and guitarist Chris Broderick, both of whom left the band in 2014. Dystopia is Megadeth’s first album since Countdown to Extinction (1992) not to feature guitarist/vocalist Marty Friedman, who left the band in 2000.

Initial reception for Dystopia has been positive; many critics have praised Mustaine’s songwriting and the album’s production values. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album has an average score of 83 based on 5 reviews, indicating “universal acclaim”. AllMusic’s Gregory Heaney gave Dystopia 4 out of 5 stars and wrote that “Dystopia finds Megadeth sounding as vital as they have in years.”

Anthrax- “For All Kings”

Anthrax’s eleventh studio album, For All Kings, is a thrash metal masterpiece. Released in 2016, the album features some of the band’s best work to date. From the hard-hitting opener “You Gotta Believe” to the crushing “Evil Twin,” For All Kings is a must-hear for all fans of heavy metal.

The album opens with the title track, a blazingly fast song that sets the tone for the rest of the album. “Take Control” is another stand-out track, with its catchy riff and head-banging chorus. If you’re looking for some new thrash metal to add to your collection, “Repentless” is a must-have.

Testament- “Brotherhood of the Snake”

Testament’s latest album, “Brotherhood of the Snake,” is a return to form for the Bay Area thrash legends. After a few albums that saw the band experimenting with different styles, “Brotherhood of the Snake” is a pure thrash metal assault from start to finish. The guitars of Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick are razor-sharp, the bass of Steve DiGiorgio is thunderous, and Chuck Billy’s vocals are as powerful as ever. The standout tracks on the album are “The Serpent’s Kiss,” “Stronghold,” and “Seven Seals.” If you’re a fan of Testament or thrash metal in general, you need to check out “Brotherhood of the Snake.”
