System of a Down

Even though they have only released five albums, System of a Down has cemented themselves as one of the most popular metal bands of the 21st century. They mix together elements of metal, pop, folk, and punk to create a unique sound that is both aggressive and catchy.

“Sugar”

“Sugar” is a song by System of a Down, released as the second single from their album Mezmerize. The song was one of the first songs the band wrote for the album, and was originally titled “Cake”, but was changed to “Sugar” before its release.

The song is about addiction, and its effects on both the addict and those around them. The lyrics are written from the perspective of an addict, and describe how addiction can take over someone’s life. The chorus features the line “Sugar/It’s just like/You’re my drug”, which sums up the theme of the song.

The music video for “Sugar” was directed by Greg Dickins, and features the band performing in a desert landscape. The video also includes footage of addicts going through withdrawal, as well as footage of people in rehab.

“Sugar” was a moderate success, reaching #20 on the US Billboard Alternative Songs chart. It remains one of System of a Down’s most popular songs, and is often considered one of their best.

“Spiders”

“Spiders” is a song by American heavy metal band System of a Down, released as the second single from their eponymous debut album. The song’s lyrics deal with themes of anthropomorphism and arachnophobia.

The song’s music video was directed by Thomas Mignone and features the band performing in a basement interspersed with footage of spiders. “Spiders” peaked at number 28 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart.

“Soldier Side”

“Soldier Side” is the first track on System of a Down’s 2006 album Hypnotize. The song is about the negative effects of soldiers returning home from war.

Slipknot

Slipknot is an American heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa. The band was founded in September 1995 by percussionist Shawn Crahan and bassist Paul Gray. Gray died in May 2010, and was replaced by current bassist Alessandro Venturella. The band’s current lineup includes vocalists Corey Taylor, Mick Thomson, and Craig Jones, guitarist Jim Root, drummer Jay Weinberg, and percussionist Shawn Crahan.

“Sulfer”

Slipknot is an American heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa. The band was founded in September 1995 by percussionist Shawn Crahan and bassist Paul Gray. After several lineup changes in their early years, the nine-piece band settled on core members consisting of Slipknot’s founder members Shawn Crahan and Joey Jordison, along with Craig Jones, Mick Thomson, Corey Taylor, Jim Root, Chris Fehn, Sid Wilson and Jay Weinberg.

Slipknot is well known for their chaotic and violent stage shows, which often includes pyrotechnics and onstage antics such as lead vocalist Corey Taylor throwing himself into the crowd or drummer Joey Jordison using his drumsticks as daggers. In 1999, Slipknot released their self-titled debut album to critical acclaim; the release was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2001. The album peaked at number 51 on the Billboard 200 chart and has gone on to become certified double platinum in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), while selling over three million copies worldwide.

“Snuff”

“Snuff” is a song by American metal band Slipknot. It was released as the fourth and final single from their fourth studio album, All Hope Is Gone. The single charted at number 16 on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, number 30 on the UK Singles Chart, and number 35 in Australia.

In an interview with MTV News, Slipknot singer Corey Taylor said that “Snuff” is not only one of his favorite songs on All Hope Is Gone, but also his favorite Slipknot song period. He explained that the reason why he loves it so much is because it is “so simple and so catchy and so brutal all at the same time.”

“Snuff” was written by Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root. It was one of the first songs written for All Hope Is Gone, and was actually completed prior to Slipknot entering the studio to record the album. In an interview with Guitar World magazine, Root explained that the song was inspired by rock bands like Nirvana and Foo Fighters, who had a “stripped-down sound.”

Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison told Kerrang! magazine that “Snuff” is one of his favorite tracks on All Hope Is Gone because it is “one of those perfect songs that just came together really quickly.” Jordison also praised Root’s guitar work on the track, saying that he “just kills it.”

“Surfacing”

“Surfacing” is a song by American heavy metal band Slipknot. It was released as the second single from their self-titled debut album in 1999. The song entered the top ten of the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, peaking at number six. On the Hot 100 Airplay chart, it peaked at number 71. The single was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on November 1, 2000, denoting sales of over 500,000 copies in the United States. A live performance of “Surfacing” was included on Slipknot’s live album Disasterpieces.

Stone Sour

“Say You’ll Haunt Me”

“Say You’ll Haunt Me” is a song by American rock band Stone Sour. It was released as the first single from their third studio album Audio Secrecy on August 23, 2010. The song peaked at number 4 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Songs chart, making it the band’s highest-charting single to date.

The song was written by Corey Taylor and Josh Rand. It was inspired by a break-up that Taylor went through shortly before writing the song. He has said that the song is about “not being able to let go of someone – even though you know you really should.”

“Socio”

Stone Sour is an American rock band formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1992. The band performed for five years before releasing their eponymous debut album in August 2002. The album peaked at number 46 on the Billboard 200, and was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in March 2005. Stone Sour achieved similar success with their second album, Come What(ever) May, released on August 1, 2006. Like their debut album, Come What(ever) May also peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold by the RIAA in October 2007.

The group’s third studio album, Audio Secrecy, was released on September 7, 2010 and debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 chart. The album was certified Platinum by the RIAA in May 2013. The band’s fourth studio album House of Gold & Bones – Part 1 was released on October 8, 2012 through Roadrunner Records to critical acclaim; it debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified Gold by the RIAA in March 2014. A second installment of House of Gold & Bones – Part 2 followed on April 9th 2013 which reached number one commercial rock radio airplay chart positions for singles “Do Me a Favor” and “Absolute Zero”.

“Sillyworld”

“Sillyworld” is a song by American rock band Stone Sour. It was released as the fourth single from their second album Come What(ever) May on October 23, 2007. The song peaked at number eleven on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and number twelve on the UK Rock & Metal Singles Chart.
