South by Southwest (SXSW) is an annual set of film, interactive, and music festivals and conferences that take place in Austin, Texas, United States. SXSW began in 1987, and has continued to grow in both scope and size every year. In 2016, SXSW’s conference lasted for ten days (March 11-20) with over 2,200 speakers, and its film festival showcased 189 features and 106 shorts from 71 countries. The music festival brought together more than 2,000 acts from 42 countries on 108 stages.
