What is House Music?

House music is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in Chicago in the early 1980s. It was initially popularized in nightclubs by DJ Chicago local Frankie Knuckles, who is sometimes credited as the “father of house”. House music quickly spread to other American cities such as Detroit, New York City, and Philadelphia, where it developed further. By the mid-1980s, house music had become a global phenomenon, being popular in both Europe and North America.
