1. Start with the drums. Drums are the foundation of most electronic music tracks, so it’s usually best to start with them when you’re sequencing your own music. This will give you a solid foundation to build the rest of your track around. Plus, it can be helpful to have the drums in place before adding other elements, as they can provide a helpful guide for the tempo and feel of the track.

1. Make sure your track is at the right level. The level should be high enough that the quietest parts are still audible, but not so high that the loudest parts sound distorted.

2. Use EQ to balance out the frequencies. You’ll want to cut the low frequencies if they’re too boomy, and boost the highs if they’re too thin.

3. Compress the track to even out the levels and maximize volume. Be careful not to overdo it, as too much compression can make a track sound cramped and flat.

4. Listen for any clipping or distortion and fix it if necessary. Clipping occurs when the waveform exceeds the maximum level; distortion happens when the waveform is compressed too much and starts to sound fuzzy or “wave-like.”
