A step-by-step guide on how to make dubstep music yourself.

Introduction

Music has always been a huge part of my life. I grew up playing the piano and singing in choirs, and later took up the violin in high school. I’ve always loved creating music, and over the years I’ve dabbled in a variety of genres. Recently, I’ve become interested in electronic dance music (EDM), specifically dubstep.

I’ll be honest, when I first started listening to dubstep I didn’t really like it. It was just too…different from what I was used to. But the more I listened to it, the more I began to appreciate its unique sound. And then one day I had a brilliant idea: why not try to create dubstep music myself?

So that’s what I set out to do. And in this article, I’m going to share with you everything I’ve learned about how to make dubstep music yourself. Trust me, it’s not as hard as you might think!

What You Will Need

In order to make dubstep music yourself, you will need a few things. First, you will need a computer with a programs like Fruity Loops, Ableton, or Logic installed. You will also need some basic knowledge of music theory, as well as an understanding of how electronic music production works. Finally, it helps to have some good quality speakers or headphones to listen to your music on.

Making the Dubstep Beat

To make a dubstep beat, you’ll need:

-A computer with a music production program like FL Studio, Logic, Ableton, etc.
-Some basic knowledge of music production
-An idea for a song

Once you have all of those things, you’re ready to get started!

Creating a dubstep beat is all about creating a catchy rhythm and then layering different sounds on top of it. Start by creating a simple drum beat using your software’s built-in drum machine. Then, add some bass notes to thicken up the sound. Finally, add in some synth stabs or other sounds to give the beat some character.

Experiment with different sounds and rhythms until you find something you like. Once you have a basic beat, you can start adding in other elements like vocals or samples. Have fun and see what you can come up with!

Adding the Bassline

Now that you have the basic framework of your dubstep song laid out, it’s time to add in the first layer of sound: the bassline. This is perhaps the most important part of any dubstep song, as it provides the low-end frequencies that give the music its power and urgency.

There are a few different ways to approach creating a bassline. The first is to use a beatmaking program like Ableton Live or FL Studio to create a bassline using synths or drum samples. If you’re not familiar with these programs, there are also many online tutorials that can help you get started.

Another option is to use a software instrument like Native Instruments’ Massive or Spectrasonics’ Omnisphere. These programs come with a wide variety of sounds that can be used to create basslines, and they also offer a lot of flexibility in terms of editing and shaping your sound.

Once you have your bassline ready, it’s time to add it to your dubstep track. Start by finding a spot in your song where you want the bassline to come in. Then, add a new track to your project and import your bassline into it. Make sure that the track is set to “mono” so that it doesn’t take up too much space in the mix.

Now that your bassline is in place, it’s time to start adding some effects. The most common effects used on dubstep basslines are reverb and delay, but feel free to experiment with other effects as well. Use whatever sounds good to you and helps create the kind of atmosphere you’re going for in your song.

Adding the Lead Synth

Now that you have your basic dubstep beat laid down, it’s time to add in some lead synth to really make your track stand out. A lot of times in dubstep, the lead will come in during the drop, but you can also use it throughout the entire song.

When choosing a lead synth sound, you want something that is going to cut through the mix and be very easily heard. A lot of times, people will use a high-pitched sawtooth wave or square wave for their lead.

Start by adding a new track and then choosing your synth sound. If you need help picking out a sound, there are a ton of great presets available in Sylenth1, Massive, and other popular VSTs. Once you have your sound selected, it’s time to start programming in your melody.

One thing to keep in mind when making dubstep music is that the melodies are usually very simple. This is because you want the focus to be on the bassline and the drums rather than on thelead synth. With that said, don’t be afraid to experiment and see what sounds good to you.

Once you have your melody programmed in, it’s time to add some effects. The most common effects used on lead synths in dubstep are reverb and delay. Just add a little bit of each until it sounds good to you. You can also experiment with other effects like phaser, flanger, and chorus if you want to get creative.

Adding the Percussion

In order to make dubstep music, you need to have a strong drumbeat. This is what will give the song its unique rhythm and make people want to dance. You can create your own drumbeat using a drum machine or by recording your own playing. If you want to make things even easier, there are some great online programs that can help you create professional sounding beats with just a few clicks.

Once you have your drumbeat, it’s time to add in the other instruments. The most important part of dubstep is the bass line. This is what gives the song its power and energy. You can create a bass line using a synthesizer or by sampling an existing piece of music. If you’re not sure how to get started, there are plenty of online tutorials that can help you get the hang of things.

After you have your drums and bass sorted out, it’s time to add in some melodic elements. This can be anything from simple synth lines to complex vocal samples. Again, there are loads of online tutorials that can help you get started if you’re not sure where to begin.

Finally, once you have all of your elements in place, it’s time to start mixing everything together. This is where DubStep music really comes alive. The key to success here is experimentation. Don’t be afraid to try new things and see what happens. With a little practice, you’ll be able to create some truly amazing sounding tracks!

Adding the Effects

Now that you have the basic idea of how to make dubstep music, it’s time to add in some effects. This is where things can get a little bit more complicated, but if you take your time and experiment a bit, you’ll be able to get the hang of it.

The first effect that you’ll want to add is a delay. This is what gives dubstep its “wobble” sound. To do this, you’ll need to find a good delay plugin. I personally like the ones that come with Fruity Loops, but there are many others out there that will work just as well.

Once you have your delay plugin, open up your project in your DAW and insert the plugin on your kick track. I like to set the delay time to around 100-200 ms and experiment with the feedback until I get a sound that I like.

The next effect that you’ll want to add is reverb. This is what will give your kick track some depth and make it sound less digital. Again, there are many good reverb plugins out there, so just find one that you like and insert it on your kick track. I usually set the decay time to around 2-3 seconds and experiment with the mix until it sounds good.

The last effect that you’ll want to add is distortion. This is what will give your kick track some edge and make it sound more aggressive. once again, there are many good distortion plugins out there, so just find one that you like and insert it on your kick track. I usually set the drive to around 50% and experiment with the mix until it sounds good.

That’s it! those are the three basic effects that you’ll need to create a dubstep wobble sound. Of course, there are many other effects that you can add if you want, but these three are a good place to start

Conclusion

In conclusion, making dubstep music is not as difficult as one may think. All you need is a computer, some basic knowledge of music production, and a little creativity. With these tools, you can create professional sounding dubstep tracks that will get any party started.
