What is the Country Music Hall of Fame?

The Country Music Hall of Fame is an American music museum and hall of fame, located at the intersection of 5th Avenue South and Demonbreun Street in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. The museum is dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of country music artifacts, memorabilia, recordings, and personal ephemera. The hall of fame portion of the museum honors recording artists who have made significant contributions to the genre. The Country Music Hall of Fame was established in 1961 by the Country Music Association as a library to preserve country music recordings and associated materials. In 1967, it was opened to the public as a small exhibit space within what is now the Nashville Convention Center. In 1971, the Country Music Association helped finance the construction of a new museum building on Demonbreun Street in downtown Nashville. The hall of fame exhibits opened in 1972; an expansion added studio space and office space in 1980.

The Country Music Hall of Fame has been in its current location since 2001. The museum houses three floors of exhibits, a bookstore, a 1,200-seat CMA Theater (formerly named the Ford Theater), Roy Acuff Theater, plus two classrooms and an oral history archive.
