Introduction

Indian pop music, also known as Indi-pop, Indipop or I-pop, is a genre of popular music that originated in India. It is a blend of Indian film music and western pop music. The first Indi-pop song was released in the 1950s, and the genre gained popularity in the 1970s with the rise of films and television shows featuring Indian actors and actresses.

The 1990s saw a wave of new artists and bands breaking into the mainstream, including Daler Mehndi, Alisha Chinai, Baba Sehgal, Bombay Vikings and Colonial Cousins.
