2019 is shaping up to be a great year for new music, especially in the indie and rock genres. Here’s a look at what to expect from some of the most promising up-and-coming artists.

New Music from Indie Artists

In 2019, we can expect to see new music from a variety of Indie artists. This year, we will see new music from well-known artists like Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend, and MGMT. We can also expect to see new music from lesser-known artists like Sunflower Bean, The National, and Mew.

The 1975

The 1975 is an English pop rock band from Manchester. The group consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Matthew Healy, lead guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and drummer George Daniel. The band’s origins trace to them all attending Wilmslow High School in Cheshire. They began playing gigs together as teenagers, often covering songs by the Pixies, Arctic Monkeys and other indie bands.

The 1975 released four EPs between 2012 and 2013 before debuting their self-titled debut album in September 2013. It was reissued the following year with new tracks “Girls” and “Robbers”. The band’s second album, I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It, was released on 26 February 2016 and debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200. In 2017, The 1975 won the Brit Award for Best British Group.

Vampire Weekend

One of the most influential and innovative rock bands of the past decade, Vampire Weekend is back with their first new album in six years. The highly-anticipated record, titled “Father of the Bride,” is scheduled for release on May 3rd.

The band has released two singles so far, “Harmony Hall” and “2021,” both of which are classics in the making. “Harmony Hall” is an anthemicrock song with complex arrangements and Twitter-friendly lyrics (“I don’t wanna live like this, but I don’t wanna die”), while “2021” is a more mellow track that features singer Ezra Koenig reflecting on the past year with resignation and hope.

Vampire Weekend’s new album is sure to be one of the most talked-about releases of 2019, and fans will be eagerly awaiting its arrival.
