The birth of Indie Rock

Indie rock is a genre of music that typically uses guitar-based rock music, but can also incorporate elements of pop, folk, and experimental music. Indie rock is often thought of as a more “authentic” type of rock music, as it is typically created by smaller, independent labels rather than major record companies.

The term “indie rock” is believed to have been first used in the 1980s, when it was used to describe a set of underground bands that were influenced by punk rock but were not signed to major record labels.
