What is Irish Folk Music?

Irish folk music is a genre of folk music that developed in Ireland. It is a mixture of influences from the Celtic, English, and Scottish traditions. Irish folk music is also sometimes known as Celtic music or Gaelic music.

The roots of Irish folk music can be traced back to the ancient Celts, who were a group of people who lived in parts of Europe, Asia, and North Africa between 800 BC and 400 AD. The Celts were known for their love of music and storytelling. They had a special instrument called the harp, which was used to play beautiful Celtic melodies.

Irish folk music began to develop its own unique sound in the early 1600s when the first British settlers arrived in Ireland. These settlers brought with them their own musical traditions, which blended with the existing Celtic traditions to create a new genre of music.

Over the centuries, Irish folk music has evolved into a highly diverse genre with many different subgenres. Today, Irish folk music is enjoyed all over the world by people of all ages.
