In the 1980s, Ingram continued to have success as a songwriter and session musician. He collaborated with Quincy Jones on the soundtrack for The Color Purple (1985), and he wrote and produced songs for Whitney Houston’s debut album Whitney (1985). In 1988, he released his second album Always You, which included the hits “One More Night” and “Somewhere Out There.” He won another Grammy Award for “One More Night,” which he co-wrote with Linda Ronstadt.

In the 1990s, Ingram focused on his solo career, releasing the albums Yim Yames (1992) and The Power of Love (1994). He also appeared on several soundtracks, including The Bodyguard (1992) and Space Jam (1996). In 2001, he returned to collaboration with Quincy Jones on the album Q’s Jook Joint. In recent years, Ingram has continued to tour and perform internationally. His most recent album is Stand (2008).
