Dave Brubeck was an American jazz pianist and composer, considered to be one of the foremost exponents of West Coast jazz. He wrote numerous jazz standards, including “In Your Own Sweet Way” and “The Duke.” Brubeck’s style ranged from refined to bombastic, reflecting his mother’s attempts at classical training and his own improvisational skills. His music is noted for its use of odd time signatures, such as 5/4, 6/4, 9/8; he was also a pioneer in introducing counterpoint into jazz.

Grammys over the course of his career, making him one of the most decorated musicians in history. Chick Corea has also been inducted into the Down Beat Hall of Fame and the Jazz Hall of Fame, among other prestigious awards.
