Detroit Jazz Festival

The Detroit Jazz Festival is one of the world’s foremost jazz festivals. It is held annually over Labor Day weekend in downtown Detroit, Michigan, at Hart Plaza and Campus Martius Park. The festival features performances by leading jazz musicians from all over the world. past performers include Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Billie Holiday, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, and Sonny Rollins.

The Monterey Jazz Festival

One of the longest running jazz festivals in the world, the Monterey Jazz Festival takes place over three days in mid-September on the grounds of the Monterey Fairgrounds. The festival has since grown to an attendance of over 70,000 people, making it one of the largest jazz festivals in the world.

The North Sea Jazz Festival is usually held on the last weekend of July. It generally features three main stages (with a fourth stage added in recent years), as well as a selection of smaller venues spread throughout the city centre. The main stages feature a wide variety of jazz styles, including bebop, fusion and funk. In addition to the music stages, the festival also has a dance tent and various other attractions.

The 2009 edition of the North Sea Jazz Festival will be held from July 10-12. Headliners include Herbie Hancock, Francisco Mela and Templado (Friday); Al Jarreau, Maceo Parker and Ramsey Lewis (Saturday); and Sonny Rollins, Joe Lovano and John Scofield (Sunday).
