Introduction

The Latin American Music Awards (LAMAS) is an annual awards ceremony that honors the best in Latin American music. The 2021 awards ceremony will be held on October 17, 2021, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.

The nominees

Album of the Year

The nominees for Album of the Year at the Latin American Music Awards of 2021 are:

Record of the Year

Record of the Year is awarded to the performer and the production team of a single song. The award is given to the song that was “aesthetically and technically superior to all other songs” in a given year. It is considered one of the most prestigious awards in music.

One of the most competitive categories this year is sure to be Best New Artist. This award recognizes artists who have made a splash in the Latin music scene within the past year. Here are the five nominees for this year’s award:

-Bryant Myers: Cuban-born rapper who rose to fame with his song “Como Se Siente”
-C Tangana: Spanish rapper and singer who has collaborated with some of the biggest names in Latin music
-Ivy Queen: Puerto Rican rapper and singer who is considered one of the pioneers of reggaeton music
-J Balvin: Colombian singer and rapper who is one of the most popular Latin artists in the world
-Yandel: Puerto Rican singer and rapper who is best known as a member of the duo Wisin & Yandel

Best Pop Performance

The nominees for Best Pop Performance are “Don’t Start Now” by Dua Lipa, “Good Days” by SZA, “Positions” by Ariana Grande, “Savage (feat. Megan Thee Stallion)” by Beyoncé and “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles.

Best Urban Performance

This category includes any music performance in the urban genre, including but not limited to rap, hip-hop and R&B.

Song of the Year

The Latin American Music Awards is an annual American music award ceremony that is presented by the Latin Recording Academy. The Latin AMAs honors artists, albums, songs, and producers in Latin music. This year’s awards show ceremony was held on April 15, 2021 and was hosted by Ana de la Reguera. The nominees were announced on March 8, 2021.

The Song of the Year award is given to the songwriter(s) of a track that has “performed exceptionally well commercially and exemplifies the best in songwriting while representing the diversity of Latin music”. This year’s nominees for Song of the Year are:

“Mamacita” by Black Eyed Peas and Ozuna
“Tusa” by Karol G and Nicki Minaj
“René (featuring Shakira)” by Anuel AA and Karol G
“Un Día (One Day)” by J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny, and Tainy

Best New Artist

The best new artist award goes to a rising star who has shown great promise in the Latin music industry. This year, the award goes to Manuel Turizo.

Manuel Turizo is a Colombian singer and songwriter who has been making waves in the Latin music scene since he released his debut single, “Una Lady Como Tú”, in 2016. Since then, he has released a string of hits including “Esclavo de Sus Besos”, “Te Robaré”, and “Déjate Llevar”. His debut album, “Oasis”, was released in 2019 and peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Latin Albums chart.

Turizo is known for his unique fusion of reggaeton, trap, and R&B, and his lyrical prowess has earned him comparisons to some of the biggest names in Latin music. With his debut album having just been released last year, Turizo is definitely one to watch out for in the coming years.

Best Pop Performance

This year, the Latin American Music Awards were held virtually on April 15, 2021. The show was hosted by Mexican singer Sofia Reyes and American television host Eve Rodriguez.

The nominees for Best Pop Performance were:

-Anuel AA – “China”
-Bad Bunny – “Dakiti”

The best urban performance was won by Bad Bunny for his song “Dakiti.” This is the second time he has won this award.

Best Rock Performance

Here are the nominees for the best rock performance:

And the winner is… Gustavo Cerati!

Best Alternative Performance

Miguel took home the award for Best Alternative Performance for his track “Good Vibes” at the Latin American Music Awards of 2021.

Conclusion

After a night of incredible performances, the Latin American Music Awards of 2021 have officially come to a close. From Bad Bunny to Ozuna, J Balvin toKarol G, the evening was filled with musical magic.

And the winners are…

Bad Bunny took home a total of four awards, making him the biggest winner of the night. He won awards for Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for El Último Tour del Mundo, and two awards for Collaboration of the Year – one for “En Casita” with Jhay Cortez and one for “Dakiti” with Jhay Cortez and Nesi.

Other big winners include Ozuna, who won three awards including Artist of the Year, and Karol G, who won two awards including Song of the Year for “Tusa” featuring Nicki Minaj.
