This year was full of chart-topping hits and breakout artists. In the Latin music world, there were a few females that really shined brightest. Here are our picks for the best Latin female artists of 2012.

Jennifer Lopez had an amazing year. She started off by releasing her single “On the Floor” ft. Pitbull, which became an international hit. The song topped charts in over 30 countries and was certified double platinum in the United States. She followed that up with her next single “I’m Into You” ft. Lil Wayne, which also topped charts worldwide. Jennifer’s album “Love?” was released in May and debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200, making it her highest charting album to date. She capped off her successful year by being named the Latin Recording Academy’s Person of the Year and receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Other notable Latin female artists include Shakira, who released her highly anticipated album “Sale el Sol” in October. The album debuted at number 7 on the Billboard 200 and has been certified triple platinum in Spain and gold in the United States. Shakira also received a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Album for “Sale el Sol.” Havana Brown also had a successful year with her debut album “Flashing Lights.” The Australian DJ/singer/songwriter landed a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with her single “We Run the Night” ft. Pitbull and garnered attention with her club-ready beats and sexy dance moves.

Best Group: “Los Tigres del Norte”

Los Tigres del Norte are a Regional Mexican group from Mocorito, Sinaloa, Mexico, formed in 1967. They are also known as “La Banda del Jefe.” The group has been nominated for numerous Grammys, winning five times, and is the only norteño group to have won a Grammy for Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album. In 2012, they released the album “Tres Veces Mojado.” The first single from the album, “Jefes de Jefes,” reached number one on the Latin Songs chart in the United States.

Best New Artist: “Jesse & Joy”
Jesse & Joy is a pop duo from Mexico City, Mexico, consisting of brother and sister Jesse Huerta and Joy Huerta. They released their self-titled debut album in 2006. In 2012, they released their third studio album, “¿Con qué suenas?,” which featured the hit single “Corre.” The song won a Latin Grammy for Record of the Year and helped the album earn a Latin Grammy for Album of the Year.
