Best Latin Albums of 2000

The year 2000 saw a surge in the popularity of Latin music in the United States, thanks in part to the breakout success of Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ La Vida Loca.” But Martin wasn’t the only one making waves in the Latin music world; a number of other artists released excellent albums that helped to make 2000 a banner year for Latin music. Here are some of the best Latin albums of 2000, according to critics.

“Rosa Nautica” by Gipsy Kings: This album by the French-based band — who incorporate a variety of genres into their music, including flamenco, pop, and salsa — was praised by critics for its catchy melodies and skilled musicianship.

“Entre Cielo Y Tierra” by Gloria Estefan: This album marked a return to Estefan’s Cuban roots, and it was widely praised for its soulful melodies and richly textured production.

“Agua Dulce, Agua Salá” by Caetano Veloso: On this album, Brazilian singer/songwriter Caetano Veloso explores a variety of musical styles, from bossa nova to reggae to electronic music. The result is an eclectic but cohesive album that’s full of beautiful melodies and interesting sonic experiments.

“Thalia” by Thalia: Mexican pop star Thalia scored a major hit with this self-titled album, which featured a mix of up-tempo dance tracks and sentimental ballads.
