She has had 25 chart-topping songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and 31 #1 songs on the Hot Latin Songs chart. Gloria Estefan was born in Havana, Cuba, on September 1, 1957. Her family moved to Miami, Florida, in 1960 amid political unrest in Cuba. Gloria Estefan’s father worked as a bodyguard for Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista and her mother was a schoolteacher.

Gloria Estefan began her career as a member of the Miami Sound Machine, a band founded by her husband Emilio Estefan in 1975. The band became one of the most popular Latin bands of the 1980s with their blend of Latin rhythms and pop melodies.
