“Limbo” is a song recorded by Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Daddy Yankee. Released on May 27, 2013, it served as the lead single from his fifth studio album, Prestige (2012). The track was written by Ramón Ayala, Michael L. flexible, Robertourious Sánchez and Justin Quiles. “Limbo” was produced by American record producer Rob diesel and co-produced by Ayala.

The song’s conception stems from Daddy Yankee’s intention of creating a summer hit that could be successful in nightclubs and on the radio. According to him, he “wanted to create something different from ‘Gasolina’ (2004), but with the same energy.” Musically, “Limbo” is a reggaeton and electronica song with influences of merengue music. The track garnered mixed reviews from music critics upon its release; some praised its club-friendly sound while others criticized its “excessive use” of auto-tune.

Commercially, “Limbo” was a success. In the United States, it peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 chart—making it Daddy Yankee’s second top twenty single on that chart—and number four on the Hot Latin Songs chart. It became his first single to reach number one in Finland and Slovakia as well as his first single to enter the top ten in Hungary and Portugal. The accompanying music video for “Limbo” was directed by Colombian audiovisual group Dixson Wiggin. “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke (featuring T.I. and Pharrell)

“Blurred Lines” is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Robin Thicke for his seventh studio album of the same name. The song features vocals from American rapper T.I. and American singer-songwriter Pharrell Williams. It was produced by Pharrell and Released on March 26, 2013, “Blurred Lines” peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming Thicke’s first single to do so in his career and T.I.’s fifth song to peak at number one. The single has also been a massive success worldwide, reaching number one in over 20 countries including Australia, Canada, France, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom; it is also one of best-selling singles of all time with sales of over 14 million units worldwide.

The music video was directed by Diane Martel and features models Emily Ratajkowski, Elle Evans and Jasmine Sanders scantily clad dancing around Thicke and the other singers in a dimly lit room. The video generated controversy due to its depiction of Blurred Lines as well as rape culture; many critics hypothesized that the video glorified rape culture.

“Get Lucky” by Daft Punk (featuring Pharrell)

“Get Lucky” is a song by French electronic music duo Daft Punk, featuring vocals from American singer Pharrell Williams. The song was completed over a period of approximately 18 months collaboration between the two artists. It is the lead single from Daft Punk’s fourth studio album, Random Access Memories (2013).

“Get Lucky” is a nu-disco and funk song in the key of G minor with a time signature of common time. The song’s verses follow a I-IV-V chord progression, while its chorus features a ii-V-I chord progression. The song also features an eight-bar blues riff. According to Williams, after he and French duo Thomas Bangalter had discussed their work on “Get Lucky”, they “left the studio for about two days and came back with fully formed verses and choruses”.

On 27 March 2013, Daft Punk released an hour-long teaser video for their album on YouTube. In the video, various people are seen dancing along to “Get Lucky”. The song was first played live on Saturday Night Live on 30 March 2013 where Daft Punk made a surprise appearance during their musical guest performance alongside Busta Rhymes and Nile Rodgers.

The single became available to purchase digitally at midnight Eastern Time on 19 April 2013. It entered at number one on Billboard Hot 100 and number one on Dance/Electronic Songs chart, becoming Daft Punk’s first number one songs in both charts as well as Williams’ sixth Hot 100 chart topper. With sales of 339,000 digital copies, it also set the record for the best digital sales week ever for a non-holiday song and marked Pharrell’s best digital sales week as a solo artist. It ranked at number two behind Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” in terms of highest weekly sales for 2013.

“Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (featuring Ray Dalton)

“Can’t Hold Us” is a song by American hip hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, featuring Ray Dalton. It was released on August 27, 2013 as the third single from their debut studio album, The Heist (2012). The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 2013, becoming their second number-one hit in the United States. It also reached number one in France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
