The making of “Crystallize”

Making of “Crystallize”
This is a song that I wrote and recorded in my living room in Santa Monica. I wanted to make an epic song with a different feel than what I had done before, so I went with a more cinematic, ethereal sound.

I had the idea to use dubstep Violin for the beat and started by finding a great drum sample. Once I had the drum track, I recorded the violin parts. I used a double stop technique where you play two notes at the same time on the violin to create a more full sound.

For the melody, I wanted something that would contrast with the Violin, so I decided to use my voice. This was my first time recording my own vocals, so it was definitely a learning experience!

After spending quite a few late nights working on this song, I’m really happy with how it turned out. I hope you enjoy it!
