System of a Down- Toxicity

System of a Down’s Toxicity was released on September 4, 2001 and is the band’s second studio album. The album was a commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200, and has since been certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album’s success was driven by the singles “Chop Suey!”, “Aerials”, and “Toxicity”, which all charted in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100.

The album’s sound has been described as nu metal,Alternative metal,hard rock, and experimental metal. It features a mix of clean and screamed vocals, double bass drumming, and guitar riffs. The lyrics are often critical of mainstream culture and deal with topics such as drug addiction, abuse,and distrust of authority figures.

Linkin Park- Hybrid Theory

Linkin Park’s debut album, Hybrid Theory, is not only the best rock album of 2001, but one of the best rock albums of all time. The album is a perfect blend of hard rock, metal, and hip-hop, with each song bringing something unique to the table. “In the End” is a powerful ballad about loss and regret, while “One Step Closer” is a fast-paced adrenaline rush that will get your blood pumping. “Crawling” is a dark and brooding look at depression and anxiety, while “Papercut” is a perfect showcase for the band’s nu metal sound. Godsmack- Faceless

Released on April 30, 2003, Faceless is the third studio album by the American rock band Godsmack. The album was the band’s first release under Universal Records, after being dropped from their previous label, Republic/Universal. It was also the first album with new drummer Shannon Larkin. The album was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Jerry Finn.

Faceless debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling approximately 260,000 copies in its first week. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on June 25, 2003. It spawned four singles: ” Faceless”, “Straight Out of Line”, “I Stand Alone”, and “Running Blind”. Godsmack toured extensively in support of the album, playing over 300 shows in support of its release.

Mudvayne- L.D. 50

L.D. 50 (stylized as L.Δ.50) is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Mudvayne. It was released on August 28, 2000, through Epic Records. The album’s artwork was created by Paul Romano. The title L.D. 50 refers to the Median Lethal Dose test used on animals to determine toxicity levels; in this case, it is a metaphor for the attraction that humans have to self-destructive behavior, even when they know it will be lethal.

Critical reception for L.D 50 has been positive and the album is widely considered to be a landmark release in the nu metal and alternative metal genres. It has been placed on numerous publications’ best-of lists and is often cited as an influential release by other bands within the heavy metal community. To date, L.D 50 has sold over 1 million copies in the United States and has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Disturbed- Believe

Disturbed’s second album, Believe, quickly followed in 2002. By this time, the band had begun to find mainstream success and had become one of the most popular metal bands of the early 2000s. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling over 280,000 copies in its first week. It was also successful internationally, reaching the top ten in several countries including Australia and Canada. The album’s lead single, “Prayer”, was a huge hit, reaching the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100.

Nirvana- Nevermind

Nirvana’s second album,Nevermind (1991), became a sensation after the single “Smells Like Teen Spirit” reached the top of the Billboard charts.The album was produced by Butch Vig and featuredsession drummer Chad Channing. Sub Pop released an extended play(EP) taster,Hormoaning, in February 1992. In order to meet increased demand, the label commissioned more copies than it had ever done before and struggled to cope with the unexpectedly high level of interest in the band.Nirvana was catapulted into the mainstream, and Nevermind knocked Michael Jackson’s album Dangerous off the top of the Billboard 200 chart in January 1992. The success of Nevermind surprised the music industry.[117] Rolling Stone declared it “thealternative record of the year” and praised Cobain’s songwriting ability; in a later review, the magazine placed it at number seventeen on its list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

Pearl Jam- Ten

Ten is the debut studio album by Pearl Jam, released on August 27, 1991 through Epic Records. The band’s first release features a raw sound reminiscent of many of their grunge peers; however, Pearl Jam’s arrangements also display a more expansive approach to song construction and instrumentation. Upon its release, Ten was ranked number two by Billboard 200 and has since been certified diamond by the RIAA in the United States, with sales of over 12 million copies. It is Pearl Jam’s most commercially successful album and one of the best-selling albums in history.

In 2003, Pearl Jam was ranked number 476 in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”, and Ten was ranked number 207 on the magazine’s 2012 list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”. In 2009 it was voted ninth in Classic Rock magazine’s reader poll for “The 100 Greatest Albums of the Nineties”.

Stone Temple Pilots- Core

Stone Temple Pilots released their long-awaited fourth album, Core, on September 29, 1992. The band had been collaborating with producer Brendan O’Brien on the album throughout much of 1992, and the recording process was plagued with tension due to drug addiction problems within the band. Nevertheless, the album was a commercial success, debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and selling over eight million copies in the United States. Core has since been certified 8x platinum by the RIAA.

The album’s first single, “Sex Type Thing”, was a moderate success, peaking at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single, “Plush”, was much more successful, topping the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and peaking at #25 on the Hot 100. “Wicked Garden” and “Creep” were also released as singles; while neither charted on the Hot 100, both topped the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. In 1993, Stone Temple Pilots won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance for ” plum”.
