Jeff Buckley

Jeff Buckley was an American singer-songwriter and musician. He was the only child of Mary Guibert and Tim Buckley. His father was a folk singer. Buckley was raised by his mother and her family in Southern California. He began playing guitar at the age of 15 and became proficient in a variety of other instruments.

His life

Jeffrey Scott “Jeff” Buckley (November 17, 1966 – May 29, 1997), raised as Scott Moorhead, was an American singer-songwriter and musician. After a decade as a session guitarist in Los Angeles, Buckley amassed a following in the early 1990s by playing cover songs at venues in Manhattan’s East Village, such as Sin-é, gradually focusing more on his own material.

Buckley’s debut album, Grace (1994), entered the charts to much critical acclaim and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. His only completed studio album, it features his most celebrated work and is considered one of the greatest albums of all time by publications such as Rolling Stone and NME. At the time of his death, Rolling Stone described him as “among the most promising singers of his generation.”

Buckley began work on his second album in 1996 but died suddenly in 1997 at age 30 after going for a swim with fully clothed that resulted in an accidental drowning in Memphis, Tennessee’s Wolf River Harbor.

He first gained attention for his cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in November 2008. Buckley’s musical style encompassed a wide range of genres including folk, blues, rock, jazz and gospel. He was influenced by a variety of musicians including Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Van Morrison and Nina Simone. He died in 1997 at the age of 30 after drowning in Memphis, Tennessee.

John Mayer

John Clayton Mayer is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer. He was born on October 16, 1977, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and graduated from Berklee School of Music in 1998. Mayer began his career performing mainly acoustic rock, but his popularity increased with the release of his first album, Room for Squares, in 2001.

His life

He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, but he dropped out in 1998 to pursue his music career. His first album, Room for Squares, was released in 2001 and was a commercial success. His second album, Heavier Things, was released in 2003 and won a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. Mayer’s other albums include Continuum (2006), Battle Studies (2009), and Born and Raised (2012). In addition to his solo work, Mayer has also collaborated with a number of other artists, including Frank Ocean, Alicia Keys, Kendrick Lamar, and Taylor Swift.

Mayer’s music is mainly of the pop rock genre with elements of blues rock. He has won seven Grammy Awards. Mayer began his career performing mainly acoustic rock, but gradually began a transition towards the blues genre in 2005 by collaborating with renowned blues artists such as B.B. King, Buddy Guy, and Eric Clapton. Forming the John Mayer Trio in 2005, he released a live album in 2005 called Try!, which was followed by the studio album Continuum in 2006. Both albums received wide critical acclaim, and Continuum earned Mayer a 2007 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. He also won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Waiting on the World to Change”. That album was followed by Battle Studies in 2009, a return to pop, with a number-one grossing tour.

Pete Yorn

Pete Yorn is an American singer-songwriter and musician from Montclair, New Jersey. He first gained recognition with his 2001 debut album, musicforthemorningafter, which was produced by Phil Ek. The album was a commercial and critical success, earning Yorn a Golden Globe nomination for its first single, “Life on a Chain”.

His life

Pete Yorn was born in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, and grew up in Montville. His father, Al Yorn, is a retired orthopedic surgeon, and his mother, Sharon Yorn, is a retired nurse. His brother Rick is also a musician. He graduated from Montville Township High School in 1993, and then attended Syracuse University before transferring to the Berklee School of Music in Boston.

Yorn began recording music on a 4-track tape recorder when he was in high school. He released his first album entitled musicforthemorningafter on Columbia Records in 2001. The album included his breakthrough hit “Life on a Chain”. In September 2006 he released his second album Nightcrawler. Through his own label Fiction Records Inc., distributed by Dualtone Music Group, he released his third album Break Up with actress Scarlett Johansson on September 15, 2009. The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart and #1 on iTunes.
