The Best Songs of the Year

Can you believe it’s already been a year? Time sure flies when you’re having fun! We’ve had some great songs come out this year, so it’s time to countdown the best of the best. This list was compiled by taking a look at the most popular songs of the year, as well as the songs that our staff loved. So without further ado, let’s get into the list!

“We Will Rock You” by Queen

This song was released in 1977 by the British rock band Queen. The song is written in acall and response form between the lead singer, Freddie Mercury, and the audience. The song became an anthem for rock music fans and is still popular today.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen

“Bohemian Rhapsody” is a song by the British rock band Queen. It was written by Freddie Mercury for the band’s 1975 album A Night at the Opera. The song is a six-minute suite, consisting of several sections without a chorus: an intro, a ballad segment, an operatic passage, a hard rock section and a reflective coda. The single was accompanied by a groundbreaking promotion campaign which included top billing on all major radio stations and newspapers around the world during its release week, giving Queen unprecedented coverage on Rolling Stone magazine’s Hot 100 chart.

“Another One Bites the Dust” by Queen

Despite its dark subject matter, “Another One Bites the Dust” was one of Queen’s biggest hits, spending three weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1980. The song was written by bassist John Deacon, and was inspired by the increase in drug-related deaths he was seeing in the news. Singer Freddie Mercury later said that the song’s title was a reference to “all the dating going on… all the Aids and all that.”

“Under Pressure” by Queen

Queen’s “Under Pressure” is widely considered to be one of the best songs of the year. The song was released in 1981, and it quickly rose to the top of the charts. It remains one of Queen’s most popular songs, and it has been covered by many other artists.

“You Are the Champions” by Queen

An ode to the enduring human spirit, “You Are the Champions” by Queen is one of the best songs of the year. The anthemic track was released in May, just as many countries were starting to lock down due to the pandemic. As the world reeled from the pandemic, Queen’s song served as a reminder that we will get through this tough time. The song also became a viral sensation, with people all over the world sharing videos of themselves singing along to the tune.
