Maine Academy of Modern Music’s Rock Camp is a summer day camp for ages 8-18 that offers a fun and supportive environment to learn about and play music.

Introduction

Music has always been a huge part of my life. I grew up in a small town in Maine, and there wasn’t a lot to do for fun. So, when I was 10 years old, my parents signed me up for rock camp.

I loved it! I loved everything about it. The feeling of being on stage, the camaraderie of being in a band, and the satisfaction of learning something new and difficult.

Since then, I’ve been to dozens of rock camps, and I’ve even started working as a counselor at the Maine Academy of Modern Music.

If you love music and are looking for an opportunity to learn and grow as a musician, I highly recommend checking out a rock camp near you!

What is Rock Camp?

Rock Camp is a week-long day camp for musicians of all skill levels, ages 8-18. The Academy provides top-notch instruction on all instruments, including guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and vocals. Each day begins and ends with a full band rehearsal, giving campers the opportunity to learn how to work together as a band and to prepare for a final performance at the end of the week. Other activities include workshops on songwriting, stage performance, music theory, and recording techniques.

The Camp Instructors

Maine Academy of Modern Music Rock Camp would not be possible without our amazing team of professional musicians and educators who serve as our camp instructors. These experienced music professionals work hard to create a fun and supportive environment where campers can learn, grow, and rock out!

The Camp Schedule

Rock Camp is a week-long day camp for kids ages 10-18. We meet Monday-Friday from 9am to 3pm. Each day starts with a whole-group electric guitar or bass lesson. The rest of the morning is spent in small groups learning songs and practicing as a band. After lunch, we have more band rehearsals and work on our stage performance. On Friday, we have a dress rehearsal and performance for family and friends.

What to Expect at Rock Camp

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned musician, Rock Camp is the perfect place to hone your skills, make new friends, and of course, rock out!

Each day at camp will start with a group warm-up and stretch led by one of our awesome counselors. From there, campers will break off into their chosen instrument groups and get right to work honing their skills. Beginner students will learn the basics of their instrument, while more experienced students will be challenged with more difficult material.

Throughout the day, campers will rotate through different workshops led by our counselors and visiting artists. Workshops range in topics from songwriting and performance to music history and theory. No matter what your interests are, there’s something for everyone!

After a lunch break (yum!), it’s back to work in the instrument groups. In the afternoon, the whole camp comes together for rehearsals. This is where all of the hard work pays off as campers put together what they’ve learned into a rockin’ performance!

Each day ends with a fun activity like a scavenger hunt or movie night. On the last day of camp, families are invited to watch the final performance. It’s always an emotional show – we even provide tissues for parents in case they start tearing up from pride!
