The Movie – (Music from the Lake House Movie) is a 2006 American romantic drama film directed by Alejandro Agresti and starring Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock and Christopher Plummer. The film is based on the South Korean film Il Mare (2000), which in turn was inspired by the 1966 Science fiction novel The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Screenwriter David Auburn wrote the screenplay, which was totally rewritten during production.

The Plot:
Kate Forster (Sandra Bullock) is a successful doctor who moves out of her lakesideChicago apartment after the death of her relationship with Alex Wyler (Keanu Reeves). From London, Alex writes her an email asking her to forward some mail that has arrived for him; Kate discovers that it is an invitation to his wedding. Tormented with jealousy and regret, she decides not to contact him. As days go by, new emails from Alex keep coming in, and Kate pays closer attention to them. She forwardshim some books that were sent to her from an African country, which he had been trying to get ahold of. They bond over their shared love for music, literature and art.

Through their emails, they continue corresponding without ever revealing their true identities or meeting face-to-face. They only know each other by their screen names: “Sydneypark” for Kate and “architect77” for Alex. Eventually they realize they are living two years apart; in 2004 for Kate and 2006 for Alex. They decide to try to find a way to be together while living in separate time periods despite knowing it may never work out…

The film is a remake of the 2004 South Korean film Il Mare. The plot follows two people who connect via anonymous love letters left in a lake house mailbox. Through their letters, they fall in love but have never met in person.

The movie starts with Kate Forster (Sandra Bullock) leaving the lake house she has been living in for two years. She leaves behind a number of items including a music box and some clothes. As she is leaving, Alex Wyler (Keanu Reeves) arrives to take over the lease for the house. Alex is an architect who is working on renovating the house. He finds the music box and some of Kate’s clothes and starts to investigate who she is.

He eventually discovers that Kate has been living two years in the future. Through their letters, they start to fall in love but are unable to meet due to the time difference. Alex finishes renovating the house and decides to sell it. Before he does, he leaves a letter for Kate asking her to contact him. The movie ends with Kate receiving the letter and smiling.
