2016 was an amazing year for hip hop, with many artists rises to fame and recognition. Here are some of the best hip hop artists of 2016, in no particular order.

Chance the Rapper
One of the most successful independent artists of all time, Chance the Rapper released his highly anticipated third mixtape Coloring Book in 2016 to much critical acclaim. The mixtape featured several big-name guests including Kanye West, Justin Bieber, and Lil Wayne, and helped Chance further solidify his place in the hip hop world.

Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar had a hugely successful 2016, winning multiple Grammy Awards and receiving widespread critical acclaim for his album DAMN. He also embarked on a massive world tour in support of the album, performing to sold-out crowds all over the globe.

Drake had another hugely successful year in 2016, with the release of his album Views shattering records and becoming one of the best-selling albums of all time. He also won several Grammy Awards and continued to dominate the charts with his singles “One Dance” and “Hotline Bling.”

J. Cole
J. Cole released his highly anticipated fourth studio album 4 Your Eyez Only in 2016 to much critical acclaim. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and was hailed by many as one of the best hip hop albums of the year. Cole also embarking on a massive world tour in support of the album, performing to sold-out crowds all over the globe.
