The Latest Pop Songs

Pop music is a genre of popular music that originated in its modern form in the United States and United Kingdom during the mid-1950s. The terms “popular music” and “pop music” are often used interchangeably, although the former describes all music that is popular and includes many diverse styles. Pop music is eclectic, and often borrows elements from other styles such as urban, dance, rock, Latin, and country. Identifying factors include generally short to medium-length songs written in a basic format (often the verse-chorus structure), as well as common use of repeated choruses, melodic tunes, and hooks.

By the early 1960s, pop music competed with rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, and other genres for top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. By 1965, most major U.S. record companies had established more experimental divisions (often called “artists & repertoire”, or A&R) to develop artists who would fit into multiple musical genres; Motown Records was an early exponent of this strategy with Martha Reeves & The Vandellas and The Temptations. Since then, pop artists have increasingly collaborated with producers who have computed tomography machines to create new sounds for their songs; some notable examples include Brittany Spears’ “Toxic” (2004) which was produced by Swedish musician Max Martin; Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” (2011) which was co-produced by French disc jockey RedOne; Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” (2013), which was produced with Canadian record producer Maegan Cottone; Rihanna’s “Work” (2016), which was produced by British producer Naughty Boy; Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble.” (2017), which was co-produced by American record producer Mike Will Made It; Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” (2015) which was co-produced by Skrillex; Camila Cabello’s “Havana” (2017) featuring Young Thug, which was co-produced by Pharrell Williams among others.

The popularity of pop music continued into the 1970s with artists such as ABBA, Bee Gees, Blondie, Carpenters, Donna Summer, Barry Manilow
until it declined in the late 1980s due partly to over-exposure on television and partly due to many pop singers moving into other genres such as Adult Contemporary , country , disco , dance , metal or rock . By the late 1990s however it made a comeback led by Britney Spears , *NSYNC , Christina Aguilera , Backstreet Boys , Enrique Iglesias followed thereafter in 2000s with artists such as Justin Timberlake , Beyoncé Knowles , Christina Milian , Rihanna
and include newer groups and solosists such as One Direction , Taylor Swift etc…
