Looking for some new Psychedelic Rock to add to your collection? Here are some of the best new albums you need to check out in 2017!

Classic Psychedelic Rock

If you’re a fan of psychedelic rock, then you’re in for a treat. 2017 has seen some amazing new releases in the genre, and we’ve compiled a list of the best ones for you. From classic sounds to modern takes, there’s something for everyone on this list.

The Beatles – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

The Beatles’ ninth studio album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, is the band’s best and most important work. Released in 1967, it was a commercial and critical success, and it is often considered one of the greatest albums of all time. The album is a concept album that tells the story of a fictional band, and it includes some of the Beatles’ most popular and influential songs, such as “With a Little Help from My Friends,” “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” and “A Day in the Life.”

The Beach Boys – Pet Sounds

In 1966, The Beach Boys released “Pet Sounds,” which is often considered one of the best albums of all time. The album was a major departure from the group’s earlier surf-rock sound, and featured a more complex and mature songwriting style. “Pet Sounds” was influential on many subsequent psychedelic rock albums.

The Doors – The Doors

The Doors’ self-titled debut is not only one of the most important albums in psychedelic rock history, but one of the most important albums, period. It would be the first (and last) time that the band would achieve such a perfect blend of Jim Morrison’s dark poetry, Ray Manzarek’s baroque keyboard textures, Robby Krieger’s jazzy guitar licks, and John Densmore’s tribal rhythms. The result is an album that is at once propulsive and menacing, trippy and beautiful, yearning and malevolent. The Doors would go on to make some great albums, but they would never again capture the raw energy and unbridled ambition of their debut.

Modern Psychedelic Rock

Psychedelic rock is one of the most interesting and innovative genres of music. It’s a genre that is constantly evolving and changing, and there are always new bands and new albums to check out. If you’re looking for some new psychedelic rock albums to check out in 2017, here are a few that you need to hear.

Tame Impala – Currents

Kevin Parker’s third album as Tame Impala, Currents, is a bit of a departure from the raw psych-rock sound of his earlier work. The new record is sleek, polished, and pop-inflected – but make no mistake, it’s still a psychedelic masterpiece. Layers of synths and effects are expertly woven together to create an intricate sonic landscape, and Parker’s ethereal falsetto floats above it all like a cloud. If you’re looking for contemporary psychedelia at its finest, look no further than Currents.

The Black Angels – Death Song

The Black Angels’ Death Song is an album of dualities and dynamics. The record opens with the energetic “Currency,” which features a rolling bassline, reverb-soaked guitars, and searing vocals from singer Alex Maas. The song sets the stage for the rest of the album, which ebbs and flows between moments of gentle beauty and explosive rock.

Tracks like “Half Believing” and “I’d Kill for Her” are slow-burning mid-tempo jams that showcase the band’s ability to create atmosphere, while “Comanche Moon” and “Grab as Much (As You Can)” are blistering garage-rockers that will get your blood pumping.

Death Song is an impressive album from start to finish, and it confirms that The Black Angels are one of the best modern psychedelic rock bands around. If you’re a fan of psychedelic music, or simply looking for a great rock album to lose yourself in, this is definitely worth checking out.

The Growlers – Chinese Fountain

Formed in 2006 in Dana Point, California, The Growlers are one of the more interesting bands to come out of the modern garage rock scene. Although they’ve been around for over a decade, they’ve only recently started to receive widespread attention with the release of their fourth album, “Chinese Fountain”.

“Chinese Fountain” is a psychedelic masterpiece, full of ethereal soundscapes and catchy hooks. The album takes the listener on a journey through a variety of different emotions, from the dark and brooding “Empty Bones” to the upbeat and poppy “Good Advice”. Throughout the record, The Growlers showcase their fantastic songwriting abilities, weaving together complex instrumentation with perfect vocal melodies.

If you’re a fan of psychedelic rock, or simply looking for a great album to relax to, “Chinese Fountain” is an essential listen.
