The month of October has been big for new hip hop music. A number of artists have released new albums or mixtapes, including Lil Wayne, Cardi B, and Logic. If you’re a fan of hip hop, you’ll definitely want to check out some of these new releases.

J. Cole

J. Cole’s new album “KOD” was released on April 20, 2018. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, selling 397,000 equivalent album units in its first week. It is Cole’s fifth consecutive studio album to reach number one on the chart, and features three singles: “ATM”, “The Cut Off” and “KOD”.

Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer. He is regarded as one of the most skillful and successful hip hop artists of his generation. Born and raised in Compton, California, Lamar embarked on his musical career as a teenager under the stage name K-Dot, releasing a mixtape that garnered local attention and led to his signing with indie record label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). He began to gain mainstream recognition in 2012 after the success of his major-label debut album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, which was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album’s lead single, “Swimming Pools (Drank)”, became Lamar’s first top 40 entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Lamar’s fourth album, Damn., was released on April 14, 2017. To date, it has been certified double platinum by the RIAA and has sold over two million copies in the United States. The album received seven Grammy Award nominations at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and won five of them, giving Kendrick Lamar 11 Grammy Awards in total. Damn.’s lead single “Humble” peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart while also becoming Lamar’s first number-one single on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The second single from Damn., “DNA.”, peaked at number four on the Hot 100 and earned Lamar his ninth Grammy Award when it won Best Rap Performance at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony. In 2019 he released his fifth studio album All Day Long which debuted at number one on US Billboard 200

Chance the Rapper

So far in 2019, Chance the Rapper has released two new singles, “Groceries” and “I Might Need Security.” “Groceries” is a summery, feel-good track featuring solid production and Chance’s trademark positive lyrics. “I Might Need Security” is a politically charged song in which Chance addresses Chicago politics, among other things. These two singles are the first new music from Chance since his 2016 album Coloring Book.

Lil Wayne

Hip-hop fans rejoice! Lil Wayne is gearing up to release not one, but two new albums this year. The Louisiana-born rapper has announced that he will be dropping his long-awaited album Tha Carter V on September 21st. In addition to that, Wayne will also be releasing a collaborative album with fellow rapper 2 Chainz on October 28th. Both albums are sure to be packed with the hard-hitting beats and lyrical prowess that have made Wayne one of the most successful rappers of all time. So mark your calendars and get ready for some new Lil Wayne in 2018!

Drake

Drake is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, and actor. Born in Toronto, Drake rose to fame as a actor on the teen drama television series Degrassi: The Next Generation in the early 2000s. In 2006, Drake released his debut mixtape Room for Improvement. The mixtape attracted the attention of Lil Wayne, who subsequently signed Drake to his Young Money Entertainment record label in June 2009.

Drake’s major label debut album Thank Me Later (2010) peaked at number one on the US Billboard 200 and was soon certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). His next two releases, 2011’s Take Care and 2013’s Nothing Was the Same, were critically and commercially successful; the former earned him his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, and the latter his second Grammy for Best Rap Performance. In 2015, he released two mixtapes—the trap-influenced If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and a collaboration with Future titled What a Time to Be Alive—both of which topped the US Billboard 200 chart.

Kanye West

Kanye West is an American rapper and producer who has released a number of critically and commercially successful albums. His latest album, “Ye”, was released in June 2018 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. West is also a fashion designer and has his own clothing line, Yeezy.
