The first Blues music Club was The Cotton Club which opened in Harlem in 1923. During the 1920s and 1930s, Harlem was the center of the African-American universe and The Cotton Club was its hottest nightclub. The club featured Duke Ellington’s Orchestra and other top jazz bands of the day. blues singers such as Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday and Lena Horne got their start at The Cotton Club.

In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Willie Dixon, Jimmy Reed and other Chicago blues musicians brought the electric guitar to the forefront of the music. The 1960s saw a resurgence of interest in Blues music with British bands like The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Cream incorporating Blues into their own sound.
