Rodrigo’s early life and musical training

Olivia Rodrigo was born in Temecula, California, on February 20, 2003. Her father, Ross, is a doctor, and her mother, Heidi, is a teacher. Rodrigo began playing piano at age seven and guitar at age ten. She also started writing songs at a young age. When she was eleven years old, she recorded a song called “You Belong with Me,” which she co-wrote with her friend Gabi DeAlmeida-Sillman. The song was inspired by the Taylor Swift song of the same name.

Rodrigo’s musical training began in earnest when she was accepted into the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. She took classes in jazz piano and guitar, and also studied voice. In 2016, she appeared in an episode of the television series Austin & Ally. The same year, she appeared in a short film called The First Time I Ran Away. In 2018, Rodrigo starred in the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark as Paige Olvera, a social media influencer who runs a vlogging channel with her best friend Frankie Wong (played by Madison Hu).

Olivia Isabella Rodrigo (born February 20, 2003) is an American singer, songwriter and actress. She gained popularity starring as Nini Salazar-Roberts in the Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (2019–present), for which she earned a nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the 28th Satellite Awards. In 2020, she signed with Interscope Records and released her debut single, “Drivers License”, which peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and set a record for the biggest single-week streaming debut for a non-holiday song.

Rodrigo began acting professionally in elementary school productions of musical theater.[4] She played a lead role as Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls on Broadway in 2018. In 2019, she was cast as Nini Salazar-Roberts, the female lead of a new High School Musical television series set inside a high school’s drama club, which premiered on Disney+ that November. The series was met with positive reviews from critics, with Rodrigo’s performance earning particular praise. Rodrigo signed with Interscope Records in 2020 and released her debut single “Drivers License” later that month. It debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100, making her the youngest artist to ever achieve that feat.

The release of Rodrigo’s debut single, “Drivers License”

On January 8, 2021, Rodrigo’s debut single, “Drivers License”, was released. The song achieved great success, debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, and becoming the biggest single to debut at number one since Adele’s “Hello” in 2015. In its second week on the chart, it remained at number one, making Rodrigo the first artist born in the 2000s to have a song spend more than one week at number one. The song also topped the charts in Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and many other countries.

She has since released two more singles, “Deja Vu” and “Good 4 U”, both of which have also been commercially successful.
