The Old Town School of Folk Music

The Old Town School of Folk Music is a world-renowned music school located in the heart of Chicago. The school has a long and storied history, dating back to its founding in 1957. Today, the school is known for its intimate concert venues, which offer excellent sightlines and acoustics. The Old Town School of Folk Music is also home to a variety of musical genres and styles, making it one of the most diverse music schools in the country.

Location

The Old Town School of Folk Music is located in the heart of Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood at 909 W. Armitage Ave. We are easily accessible via public transportation and there is ample street parking available in the neighborhood.

History

Founded in 1957 by Frank Hamilton, Win Stracke, and Earl Taylor, The Old Town School of Folk Music is a Chicago landmark. Located in the historic Lincoln Park neighborhood, the School has been offering classes and concerts to adults and children ever since. The original building was destroyed by fire in 1961, but was quickly rebuilt and has been serving the community ever since.

The Old Town School of Folk Music is more than just a music school; it is also a performance venue, hosting a wide variety of musical acts from around the world. The Seating Chart below shows the different areas of the Main Hall where you can enjoy a concert.

The Seating Chart

The Old Town School of Folk Music’s Seating Chart is a great way to find out where your favorite performer will be playing. The Seating Chart is also a great way to find out what time the show starts and how long it will be.

The Main Hall

The Main Hall is the Old Town School of Folk Music’s largest performance space. It has a capacity of up to 1,000 people. The hall is located on the second floor of the school’s main building, at 4544 North Lincoln Avenue in Chicago.

The Concert Hall

The Concert Hall is the largest space at the Old Town School with a capacity of up to 775. It hosts the world’s best touring artists and is also the home of the Old Town School’s faculty concert series and many student ensembles.

The Classroom

The Old Town School of Folk Music has two primary performance venues. The Main Hall, which is our largest venue, has a capacity of up to 400 people. The Classroom, which is our smaller venue, has a capacity of up to 150 people.

The Main Hall is located on the second floor of the Old Town School and can be accessed by the main stairway or the elevator. The Classroom is located on the first floor of the school and can be accessed by either the main stairway or the ramp.
