Introduction

Otep’s house of secrets is a gothic-metal music video created by the American gothic-metal band Otep. The video was released on May 5, 2007, and features the band performing in a haunted house. The video was shot in Los Angeles, California, and was directed by Darren Doane.

The video

Otep’s House of Secrets is the first single from the band’s album, Smash the Control Machine. The song is about domestic violence and was inspired by the poet, Nayyirah Waheed. The music video was directed by Shawan Green and features Otep Shamaya.

The music

The song “House of Secrets” was released as the first single from the album, and an accompanying music video was also released. The music video features lead singer Otep Shamaya and her band performing in a gothic mansion, intercut with shots of Shamaya walking through the mansion’s corridors and rooms.

The lyrics

In the shadows, I am waiting
Biding my time, ’til the moment is right
To pounce on my prey, like a tiger in the night
I am ready, to strike at any time
To take what is mine, with no apologies
You should know, I’m not to be messed with
I’m a force to be reckoned with
I’m the mistress of my own fate
And I will not be denied
I am Otep, and this is my house of secrets

The visuals

The video features Otep Shamaya in various gothic and erotic scenes. It starts with her in a black dress sitting in a darkened room with candles. She then stands up and walks around the room, appearing in different scenes throughout the video. These include her floating in a pool of water, standing in front of a fireplace, and lying on a bed with snakes. In each scene, she is either partially or fully nude. The video also features close-ups of Shamaya’s face as she lip syncs the lyrics to the song.

The music video was directed by Marcus Sutherland and shot in Los Angeles, California.

The making of the video

Otep’s House of Secrets was shot on location in Los Angeles and directed by Steven Johnson Leyba. The video features a mix of live action and animation, and tells the story of a woman who is lured into a secret society.

The concept

The song “House of Secrets” is about a relationship gone wrong, and the music video is a creative way to visualize that. The video was shot in one continuous take, with the band playing in front of a green screen. The footage was then edited together to create the final product.

The video starts with the band members walking into a house, which is presumably the “house of secrets” mentioned in the song. As they walk through the rooms, they find various items that represent different aspects of the relationship. For example, in the kitchen they find a cake that says “Happy Anniversary,” which represents the happy times in the relationship. In the living room they find a TV playing footage of a fight, which represents the arguments and conflict. And in the bedroom they find a coffin, which represents death (the death of the relationship).

At the end of the video, we see all of the band members walking out of the house, leaving all of the secrets behind. This represents moving on from a failed relationship and being able to start fresh.

The filming

The making of the music video for Otep’s House of Secrets took place in Los Angeles, California in March 2003. The video was directed by Dale “Rage” Resteghini, who had previously worked with the band on their video for “Wake Up”.

The video features the band performing in a house which is gradually overrun by snakes, spiders, rats and other creepy-crawly creatures. At the end of the video, the house explodes.

Although it may look like the band were actually surrounded by real snakes and spiders, Resteghini used a combination of real animals and computer-generated effects to create the final effect.

The editing

After the footage was collected, it was time for me to start editing the video. I had to go through all of the footage and choose which scenes I wanted to use in the video. I also had to decide what order I wanted to put the scenes in and how long each scene should be. This part of the process took a lot of time and effort, but it was worth it in the end.

Conclusion

The video opens with a shot of a decrepit Victorian mansion, followed by shots of singer Otep Shamaya walking through various rooms of the house. The video focuses on various dark and mysterious elements of the mansion, such as a black cat, a grandfather clock, and a cobwebbed chandelier. The video also features footage of the band performing in a dark room of the mansion. Near the end of the video, Otep is seen sitting in a throne-like chair, surrounded by candles. The video concludes with a shot of the house burning down.
