The Characters

The Phantom of the Opera is a novel by French author Gaston Leroux. It was first published as a serialization in Le Gaulois from September 23, 1909, to January 8, 1910. The novel was published in volume form in late March 1910 by Pierre Lafitte and rapidly became a bestseller.

The novel tells the story of a young soprano, Christine Daaé, who becomes the obsession of a mysterious, disfigured musical genius known only as “The Phantom” or “Opera Ghost”. The Phantom falls in love with Christine and abducts her to his lair beneath the Paris Opéra House.

There have been numerous film and television adaptations of the novel, including Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1986 musical, which was the basis for this particular trumpet sheet music PDF.

The characters of The Phantom of the Opera are some of the most memorable in all of literature. They include:
