The Roots

The Roots are an American hip hop band, formed in 1987 by Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter and Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The Roots currently serve as the house band on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The Roots have released twelve studio albums, two EPs, one live album and three joint albums. They have also collaborated with a number of artists including D’Angelo, Mos Def, Cody ChesnuTT, Elvis Costello, John Legend and Malik B., to name a few. Their most recent album (‘And Then You Shoot Your Cousin’) was released in 2014.
