It’s already 2021 and a lot has changed since last year. So, who are the top 5 pop music artists of 2021?

Introduction

In a year when the pop charts were largely consumed by female artists, it was male acts that came out on top in Billboard’s annual ranking of the top musical acts of the year.

The top five pop music artists of 2021, according to Billboard, are:

Bieber, who had the No. 1 album and No. 1 song of the year, is the first solo male artist to top Billboard’s year-end chart since Adele did so in 2012 with “21.” He is also the first Canadian artist to ever achieve the feat.

Ariana Grande is an American singer and actress. Born in Boca Raton, Florida, Grande began her career in 2008 in the Broadway musical 13. She rose to prominence for her role as Cat Valentine in the Nickelodeon television series Victorious (2010–2013) and Sam & Cat (2013–2014). As she became more involved in music, Grande made a cameo appearance as herself in the television series Scream Queens (2015) and released her debut album, Yours Truly, in 2013. The album’s lead single, “The Way”, debuted atop the US Billboard Hot 100.

Grande’s second studio album, My Everything (2014), entered at number one on the Billboard 200 with 174,000 copies sold in its first week. It features the singles “Problem”, “Break Free”, “Bang Bang” and “Love Me Harder”. Her third studio album, Dangerous Woman (2016), was released to positive reviews; it debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 with 175,000 equivalent album units sold, and spawned the single “Side to Side”, which peaked at number four on the Hot 100. The following year, Grande gave voice to Snow White in the animated film Red Shoes & 7 Dwarfs (2017), and released her fourth studio album Sweetener (2018). The album’s lead single “No Tears Left to Cry” reached number three on the Hot 100.

Grande has achieved success with Dangerous Woman and Sweetener becoming her first two albums to be certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America within a year of release. With Sweetener she also became the first female artist since Adele to have all songs from an album certified Gold or higher by the RIAA.[14] In 2019, Grande won her first Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album for Sweetener. She also received nominations for Album of the Year and Record of the Year for “thank u, next”.

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber is a Canadian singer and songwriter. Born in 1994 in Stratford, Ontario, Bieber took second place in a local talent competition at a young age. In 2007, he was discovered by American artist Scooter Braun and was signed to RBMG Records. Bieber released his debut EP, My World, in late 2009. The album was certified platinum in the United States. Bieber released his first full-length studio album, My World 2.0, in 2010. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and was later certified multi-platinum in several countries.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is an American singer-songwriter. She is known for writing songs about her personal life, which has been the subject of media scrutiny. Swift’s music contains elements of pop, country, and indie rock. Her songs have topped charts worldwide.

Swift was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, and raised in Wyomissing, Berks County, Pennsylvania. She attended West Reading Elementary Center and Wyomissing Area Junior/Senior High School. She later transferred to The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, where she graduated in 2008. Swift began writing songs when she was five years old, and she had her first live performance at the age of ten.

Swift signed with Big Machine Records in 2005 and released her self-titled debut studio album in 2006. She achieved success with the release of her second album, Fearless (2008), which became the best-selling album of 2009 in the United States; it earned Swift four Grammy Awards, including the Album of the Year Award. Her next album, Speak Now (2010), sold more than one million copies within its first week; it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Swift’s fourth albumRed (2012) marked a change in her musical style with a fusion of country and pop genres; it received positive reviews from critics and debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart. As a songwriter, Swift has received awards from BMI and ASCAP for her work on other artists’ albums; she has also been nominated for best original song at the Golden Globe Awards for “Safe & Sound”, which she co-wrote with The Civil Wars for The Hunger Games soundtrack (2012).
