We all know the big names in pop music, but there are tons of incredible composers working behind the scenes to create the hits we love. Here are five pop music composers to check out!

Brian Eno

Brian Eno is a pop music composer who is known for his work with the band Roxy Music. He has also worked with David Bowie, Talking Heads, and U2. Eno is considered to be one of the pioneers of ambient music and has released numerous solo albums.

Ryuichi Sakamoto

Ryuichi Sakamoto is a Japanese composer, singer, songwriter, record producer, activist, and actor who started his career in 1978 as a member of the electronic music group Yellow Magic Orchestra. He has composed music for over one hundred films and television series, including The Last Emperor (1987), which won the Academy Award for Best Original Score. He has also produced albums for other artists such as Youssou N’Dour and David Sylvian. In 2014, he was awarded the Polar Music Prize by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.

Owen Pallett

Owen Pallett is a Canadian composer, violinist, keyboardist, and vocalist, who performs solo as Owen Pallett or, formerly, under the band name Final Fantasy. As Final Fantasy, he won the 2006 Polaris Music Prize for the album He Poos Clouds. Common themes in his work include the experiences of minority groups in Canada (particularly queer people and immigrants), sandbox video games, and comics books.

Jlin

Jlin is a pop music composer from Gary, Indiana. Her style is a mix of footwork, R&B, and experimental electronic music. She has released two albums and two EPs, and has been praised for her unique style and innovative approach to composition.

Oneohtrix Point Never

Over the course of his prolific career, electronic musician Oneohtrix Point Never (AKA Daniel Lopatin) has explored an incredible range of styles and sounds. His early work consisted mostly of droning, ambient pieces, but he soon began to experiment with more pop-oriented structures and sounds.athon)

Oneohtrix Point Never’s music often features complex layers of synths and samples, resulting in a sound that is both intricate and highly atmospheric. His ability to craft these dense soundscapes makes him one of the most unique and interesting producers working today.
