What is Electronic Dance Music?

Electronic dance music, also known as EDM, is a genre of music that is often played in nightclubs, festivals and concerts. The music is characterized by its fast tempo and often uses synthesizers and drum machines. EDM has been growing in popularity in recent years, with many artists finding success on the Billboard charts and in the club scene.


Swedish producer Avicii had one of the biggest hits of 2015 with his song “Wake Me Up.” The track, which featured Aloe Blacc on vocals, topped charts in more than 20 countries and was a top 10 hit in several others.Avicii’s other popular songs include “Hey Brother” and “Addicted to You.”

Calvin Harris

Calvin Harris was one of the most popular electronic dance music artists of 2015. His hit song, “How Deep is Your Love,” featuring vocals by Disciples, reached number one in several countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia. In the United States, the song peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Harris also had success with his single “Outside,” featuring Ellie Goulding, which reached number one in the UK and number seven in the US.

David Guetta

David Guetta is a French DJ, music producer, and songwriter. He has sold over nine million albums and thirty million singles worldwide. In 2011, Guetta was voted as the number one DJ in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll. In 2010, he founded the record label Jack Back Records.

Guetta’s 2013 studio album, Nothing but the Beat 2.0, earned him his first Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronica Album at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. His second studio album, Guetta Blaster (2004), included the smash hit singles “Money” and “Stay”.
