-Lilla (March 10th at The White Eagle): Lilla is a new voice in the world of folk music, and her debut album is already getting rave reviews. Don’t miss your chance to see her live!
-The Brothers Comatose (March 17th at The Doug Fir Lounge): San Francisco’s own The Brothers Comatose are bringing their high-energy live show to Portland this month. Get ready to dance!

Workshops

The month of May is a great time to check out some wonderful folk music in Portland! Here are some of the best workshops happening this month:

Folk Music Workshop with Ethan Robbins: Come learn about different styles of folk music from around the world with local folk musician Ethan Robbins! This workshop is perfect for beginners and will be held on May 5th from 1-3pm at the Maine State Music Theatre.

Beginning Ukulele with Dan Kirouac: Want to learn how to play the ukulele? This beginner’s workshop, taught by local musician Dan Kirouac, is perfect for those just starting out. The class will be held on May 12th from 1-3pm at Workshop13 in Biddeford.

Celtic Harp Workshop with Kim Robertson: Celtic harpist Kim Robertson will be teaching a workshop on May 19th from 1-3pm at Portland Ovations. This workshop is perfect for those who want to learn more about this beautiful instrument.

Dances

Do you like to Folk Dance? Then you’ve come to the right place! This is the Portland Folk Music Calendar, and it is full of information about what’s happening this month in the world of Folk Dancing.

Dances are a huge part of Folk Music, and there are plenty of opportunities to get your feet moving this month. Check out the calendar below for a list of dances happening in Portland this month.

-The First Thursday contradance will be held on Thursday, August 2nd at 7:30 PM at the World Trade Center Ballroom. This dance is open to all levels of dancers, and there will be a beginners’ lesson at 7:00 PM.
-The Second Friday contradance will be held on Friday, August 10th at 8:00 PM at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. This dance is also open to all levels of dancers, and there will be a beginners’ lesson at 7:30 PM.
-The Third Saturday waltz dance will be held on Saturday, August 18th at 8:00 PM at Columbia Grace Brethren Church. This dance is open to all levels of dancers, and there will be a beginners’ lesson at 7:30 PM.
