The genre was pioneered by bands such as the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, and Led Zeppelin. Psychedelic hard rock reached its commercial peak in the 1970s with bands such as Aerosmith, Kiss, and Van Halen. The genre faded from popularity in the 1980s but experienced a resurgence in the 1990s with bands such as Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots.
