Welcome to the /r/funk subreddit! This is a place for all things funk, disco, boogie, and anything else related to the genre. Feel free to post your favorite tracks, have discussions about the genre, and share anything else funk-related that you think others might enjoy!

We all know that buying electronic music can be expensive. With so many different artists and producers out there, how can you be sure you’re getting the best deal for your money? That’s where r/funk comes in! This subreddit is a great place to discover new and upcoming artists in the genre, as well as get deals on music that you may have missed.

Daft Punk

Daft Punk is a French electronic music duo from Paris, consisting of musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. They are considered one of the most influential acts in the history of dance music and helped to bring the genre to a mainstream audience.

The duo achieved significant popularity in the late 1990s as part of the French house movement; they also had success in the years following, combining elements of house, techno, disco, rock and pop music. They have released four studio albums: Homework (1997), Discovery (2001), Human After All (2005) and Random Access Memories (2013), as well as two live albums: Alive 1997 (1997) and Alive 2007 (2007).

Daft Punk are noted for their use of costumes, particularly their signature robot outfits, which they began wearing in public appearances in 1999. The duos exploration of different styles of electronic music has led them to create songs that have been particularly influential across a number of genres, including hip hop, synth-pop and techno.

Justice

Justice is a French electronic music duo consisting of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay. The duo is known for its remixes of tracks from artists like Daft Punk,MGMT, Soulwax, and Sofia Coppola’s family bandcut Copy. They are also known for their own original work, which has been released on Ed Banger Records and Because Music.

The duo’s debut album † was released in 2007 to critical acclaim. It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album and won the 2007 Essential Mix of the Year Award. The follow-up album Audio, Video, Disco was released in 2011 and was also well-received by critics. In 2016, the duo released their third album, Woman Worldwide.

Justice has performed at several major music festivals including Coachella, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Primavera Sound, and Roskilde Festival.

LCD Soundsystem

The Chemical Brothers

The Chemical Brothers are an English electronic music duo composed of Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons, originating in Manchester in 1989. Along with The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, and other acts, they are credited with spearheading the big beat genre. In 2019, they received the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for “Got to Keep On”.

Soulwax

Soulwax is an Belgian electronic music duo from Ghent, Belgium composed of brothers David Dewaele and Stephen Dewaele. They were first active under the moniker Soulwax, followed by a number of other projects including 2manydjs, Despacio, Randomer and Die Verboten.

The Dewaele brothers have each found success in different areas of the music industry – David as a solo artist (under the name ‘The Family Stand’) and producer (most notably for his work with Gorillaz), and Stephen as a member of rock band Soulwax. However, they continue to work together on variousSoulwax projects.

Moderat

Moderat is a German electronic music group consisting of producer Gernot Bronsert and artists Sascha Ring and Sebastian Szary. The group’s music has been described as a blend of IDM, dubstep, and techno. Moderat has released three studio albums: Moderat (2009), II (2013), and III (2016).
