Rainbow Music Through the Years

The band released their self-titled debut album in 1975 which reached number 28 on the UK Albums Chart. The album received positive reviews from critics and featured the singles “Man on the Silver Mountain” and ” Catch the Rainbow “. Their second album, Rising , was released in 1976 and reached number 4 in Germany and number 44 in the UK. The album received positive reviews from critics and featured the singles “Tarot Woman” and “Stargazer”.

In 1977, Rainbow released their third album Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll which reached number 2 in Germany, number 8 in France, number 9 in Sweden and number 10 in the UK. The album was recorded with new bassist Bob Daisley and new drummer Roger Glover . The album received positive reviews from critics and featured the singles “Kill the King” and ” Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll “.

In 1978, Rainbow released their fourth album Down to Earth which reached number 6 in Germany, number 11 in Sweden and number 13 in France. The album featured new singer Ronnie James Dio who replaced Graham Bonnet . The album had a more straight-forward hard rock sound than their previous albums which experiments with different genres such as progressive rock , symphonic rock , pop rock , etc. The single ” Since You Been Gone ” was originally written by Russ Ballard for Graham Bonnet but Dio decided to keep it for himself after hearing it. It would go on to become one of Rainbow’s most popular songs.

In 1979, Rainbow released their fifth studio album Bent Out of Shape which peaked at number 5 in Sweden, number 7 in France, number 8 in Germany and at number 10 Rainbow’s final studio albums were Difficult to Cure (1981), Straight Between the Eyes (1982), Bent Out of Shape (1983) before breaking up 1984 due Before Reuniting again In 1994 for a one-off live performance entitled Black Masquerade .

In June 2015, it was announced that Rainbow would reform once again, with Blackmore being the only original member remaining. The current lineup consists of Blackmore on guitar, Jens Johansson on keyboards, Bob Noveau on bass, David Keith on drums, and singer Ronnie Romero. They have released one live album so far titled Memories in Rock – Live in Germany (2016).
