A Plea for More Soul in Music

These days, it seems like music is missing something. It’s hard to put a finger on what, exactly, but there’s just a certain…je ne sais quoi…that’s missing. That’s why I’m making a special request for more soul in music.

A need for more feeling in music

In a fast-paced, ever-changing world, people are looking for something to hold on to. They want music that feels real, that has soul. Soul music is about more than just the sound, it’s about the feeling. It’s about passion and emotion. It’s about connecting with the artist on a deeper level.

The problem is, there’s not a lot of soul in the music industry today. There are a few artists doing it right — Adele, Kendrick Lamar and Bruno Mars come to mind — but overall, the industry is missing that special something. The good news is, there’s still plenty of soul out there if you know where to look. Here are five soulful artists you should be listening to:

1) Hozier: This Irish singer-songwriter is quickly taking the world by storm with his deep, poetic lyrics and heart-wrenching voice. If you’re looking for an artist who isn’t afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve, Hozier is your man.

2) Sam Smith: Another singer-songwriter making waves in the industry, Sam Smith is known for his honest and emotional lyrics. His voice is soft and gentle, but it packs a powerful punch.

3) Alabama Shakes: This bluesy rock band from Athens, Alabama has been taking the music world by storm since their debut album in 2012. With lead singer Brittany Howard’s amazing vocals and the band’s raw talent, it’s no wonder they’ve become one of the most popular bands around.

4) Michael Kiwanuka: This British soul singer first rose to fame with his 2011 debut album Home Again. His unique sound and ability to fuse together different genres have made him a favorite among both critics and fans alike.

5) Gregory Porter: Another British soul singer, Gregory Porter burst onto the scene with his 2013 album Liquid Spirit. His smooth voice and jazz influence make him a perfect candidate for anyone looking for some good old fashioned soul music.

A void in the music industry

Today’s popular music lacks soul. It is emotionless and soulless. This is a void in the music industry that needs to be filled.

Soul music is a genre of music that originated in the United States in the 1950s. It combines elements of African-American gospel music, rhythm and blues, and sometimes jazz. Its roots can be traced to the spirituals sung by slaves during the American Civil War. Soul music became popular in the 1960s with artists such as Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, and Aretha Franklin.

Since then, soul music has been overshadowed by other genres such as rock, pop, and hip-hop. However, there is a growing demand for soul music today. This is due to the fact that many people are yearning for something more meaningful and authentic in their lives.

There are a few artists who are keeping the genre alive, such as D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Maxwell, Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, India Arie, and Amy Winehouse. However, they are not getting the same level of mainstream attention as they deserve.

It’s time for the music industry to answer the call and give soul music the attention it deserves. The world needs more soul!

The Power of Soul

There’s just something about soul music that can make you feel. It’s the perfect genre to help you unwind after a long day or to get you pumped up for a night out. Soul music just has a way of making you feel alive.

The history of soul music

The origins of soul music can be traced back to the African-American community in the early 1950s. This music genre combined elements of gospel, blues, and R&B to create a unique sound that helped to shape the sound of popular music in the years that followed.

Soul music became popular in the 1960s, thanks in part to performers such as James Brown and Otis Redding. This type of music often featured lyrics that spoke to the experiences of African Americans, and it helped to communicate messages of social change.

In the 1970s, soul music continued to evolve, with artists like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye pushing boundaries with their innovative sounds. This decade also saw the rise of disco, which incorporated many of the same elements as soul music.

Today, soul music is enjoyed by people of all backgrounds and continues to evolve with each new generation of artists.

The influence of soul music

The term “soul” has been used to describe a wide range of music from the most spiritual gospel sounds to the gritty, uncompromising urban blues that laid the foundation for what we now call “soul music.” In its simplest form, soul is a combination of gospel and blues traditions, but it has also been deeply influenced by jazz, rock, and pop.

The artists who created soul music were mostly African American and came from the southern United States. They brought with them a rich tradition of music that had been passed down through generations of oral tradition. The earliest soul artists were often influenced by the sounds of the church, but they also drew on the more secular influences of rhythm and blues, jazz, and even rock ‘n’ roll.

As soul music evolved, it came to incorporate more elements of pop and rock while still retaining its roots in gospel and blues. The result was a sound that was both unique and universal. It was a sound that appealed to listeners of all colors and backgrounds, and it was a sound that would change the course of popular music forever.

The Future of Soul

It has been said that music is the universal language, and nowhere is that more true than with Soul music. This genre of music has the ability to transcend race, nationality, and even language barriers to speak to the hearts of people everywhere.

The potential of soul music

While the sound of soul music has changed over the years, the spirit of the genre remains the same. At its core, soul music is about passion, heartbreak, and celebrating the joys of life. It’s a genre that has often been used to speak up for social change, and its artists have been some of the most influential musicians of our time.

As we look to the future, it’s clear that soul music has the potential to continue evolving and reach new audiences. In a world that is increasingly divided, soul music has the power to bring people together and remind us of what we have in common. It’s a genre that is built on empathy and understanding, and it’s one that we need now more than ever.

The hope for soul music

Despite the commercial decline of soul music in recent years, there are still many talented artists keeping the genre alive. Some of them, like D’Angelo and Erykah Badu, are household names.
