Fantasia Barrino-Taylor (born June 30, 1984), known professionally by her mononym Fantasia, is an American R&B singer, songwriter and actress. She rose to fame as the winner of the third season of the reality television series American Idol in 2004.Following her victory, she released her debut single, “I Believe,” which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Subsequently, she released her debut album, Free Yourself, which went on to be certified Platinum by the RIAA and earned Fantasia three Grammy nominations in 2006.

Fantasia’s second album, Back to Me, was released on August 24, 2010 and features the singles “Bittersweet” and “Not Gon’ Cry.” The album debuted at number two on both the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. It has been certified Platinum by the RIAA with 1.7 million albums sold in the United States as of September 2011.

Fantasia Barrino took home the top prize at the 2017 Soul Train Music Awards, held Sunday night (Nov. 5) at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

The singer was nominated for six awards and won four, including the coveted Song of the Year trophy for her hit single “Sleeping With the One I Love.” She also won Best R&B/Soul Female Artist, Best Dance Performance for her “I Made It” video and The Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award for “Sleeping With the One I Love.”

The show is produced by the makers of the popular Soul Train television series, which aired from 1971 to 2006. The Soul Train Music Awards were established in 1987 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the show.
